I've been wet shaving for about a month and a half now and have tried several razors including a Merkur 34c, 37c, 29c, EJ Kelvin, 51' and 53' Superspeed, and a MicroTouch One(I admit it). Today I got the best shave I've had thus far using a Merkur Progress! I was a bit apprehensive to get one after reading the issues some have had, but I guess I got lucky because this thing shaved wonderfully! Two passes and a little touch up and my face was BBS. I did have two small weepers due to my rough skin, not the razors fault, but no irritation at all! In addition to a great shave, I think this razor gives much better feedback than the others I've tried. You can easily hear the razor cutting and I feel like it was easier to judge my angles because of this. You could actually hear when it was cutting efficiently.., maybe it's all in my head, but it seemed to work!
I started with a nice hot shower and used a Nivea face scrub.
No pre-shave( never use any, tried it but didn't feel any benefit)
Bowl lathered using CC Bay Rum and my Semogue 620
using a new Polsilver Iridium, I set the Progress on 4 and went to work. Fairly good first pass
Felt I could go a bit more aggressive so I set it on 5 for the second pass. Great! Only needed a little touch up
Touch up pass was also done on 5.
BBS!!!
finished up with a CO9T splash(burn was great but milder than I expected) let that dry, then CC Bay Rum balm.
My best shave so far and I couldn't be happier with the Progress! It's making me want to try a Mergress now, but honestly I don't know how a knob change could make this thing much better! I'll be working my way up the dial to see how it does on more agressive settings. Wish my beard would grow in faster!! Lol
Hopefully this encourages some other new wet shavers to give the Progress a try! Don't be intimidated, but start conservatively and work your way up. It may give you your best shave to date!
