So, back at the end of May, on a bit of a lark, I purchased a couple of Chinese razors on The Bay of E's. They arrived in the mail just yesterday, so I decided to shave with one today, the Baili BT131.
After reading a couple of reviews of similar products on here, my expectations were not high. But, for around $5 + free shipping it was something new and interesting and was definitely worth a try. (Sometimes it is fun to take a bit of a chance.) I popped my current blade in (a Dorco ST-300 with 3 shaves on it) and took it for a spin.
One of the great features of this razor is that the cap holds the blade by the corners, so there was not much play in the blade alignment. It just popped right in. The plating is decent. I didn't notice any pits. The shave was mild and efficient. The razor was comfortable to hold. The head was light, but the handle had enough weight to compensate. Overall, the performance was similar to a Gillette Tech, just with a lighter head. I was DFS in two passes with little irritation.
It is probably pot metal, so it may only last a few years, but I will definitely use it again. It worked well with the Dorco blade. I bet it will be even better with an Astra SP. At $5 it is a decent razor. It would still be a decent razor at $10. Also, at prices like that, if it does suffer plate loss and disintegrate it is a no-brainer to get a replacement.
Sometimes taking a chance works out in your favor.
Maybe I will give it a try with the enclosed blade some day.
