This week I got hold of an Above The Tie Atlas with R1 & M1 base plates.
I normally use my '58 Executive set to 7 with a Nacet Blade and get BBS every day with a weeper maybe once a week or so. So I thought I'd try the ATT with the R plate first thinking it would be similar.
Day 1.
R plate with Nacet blade. I ended up with ok'ish shave but with lots of irritation - I think I was using too much pressure trying to get BBS. Maybe I needed a sharper blade....
Day 2.
M plate with Nacet. Hardly any irritation but stubbly. So much so that I had to shave again in the afternoon and I tried a Feather blade - thinking the milder M plate needs a sharper blade. Still not that close and I had some irritation.
Day 3.
R plate (to get a closer shave) with Feather - finally near BBS but lots of irritation and a few weepers.
I'm thinking maybe I'm applying too much pressure trying to get a close shave because of the angle? The shave angle on the ATT possibly needs to be much more precise than the '58 to get close?
Maybe I need a different blade, or a bigger blade gap (H1 baseplate)?
So any advice would be great, especially from people who have had the same scenario with an ATT.
I'll try it for a week or two, and if its still bad I'll go back to the vintage stuff with I know works superb - I'm missing a good shave.
