a face-lathering mystery

hoping to draw on the expertise of some of the face latherers here, let me present you with my scenario:

Since I started DE Shaving a few months ago, I've loved it. Started with an Omega 10049 and bowl lathering, always with great results. Prep is always a hot shower, washing my beard with Cetaphil face cleanser, and while I'm in the shower I soak my brush in my latte mug with hot (but not unbearably hot water).

After the shower, I shake out the brush, bowl lather, and apply, and shave, ends up irritation free and DFS every time. My rotation includes TOBS Jermyn Street Cream, Proraso White Soap, Williams Mug soap, Whiskey Ink and Lace "The Gent" shave soap, and Nivea cream (although I cut this one because I don't like it)

A couple of weeks ago, I got a WD 24mm Silvertip with the loft reduced to 45 mm, which I love. I wanted to try face lathering since I didn't care for the Omega in a face lather. The 3 times I've tried to face lather, it always ends in irritation and razor burn. I'm not a stranger to making a lather, I can bowl lather without any problem, and when I'm face lathering, I get what I think looks like a perfect lather, similar to what I'm getting out of the bowl. I load for minimum of 30 seconds (longer depending on the soap), and build a lather for a few minutes, but my post shave feel is irritation. If I get the alum matches out after a bowl lather, no stinging anywhere, even on my neck where it used to be the worst with carts, but when I touch them to my face after my face lather, its sting city.

I know its probably not an easy one to solve, but obviously I'm doing something wrong that I'm overlooking. I doubt its my prep, since its the same for both. I've watched tons of videos, but aside from having a lather pro stand beside me in the bathroom (almost wish there was such a thing I could place an order for), I'd love to hear from some seasoned face-lathering vets.

Thanks guys, sorry for the lengthy post, tried to cover most of the things I thought would be asked ahead of time!
