I am new to the DE world, though I have always been a wet shaver (currently using Schick Hydro 5, I can squeeze 2 weeks out of them shaving 6 times/week, and they work well for me). I have a couple of razors headed my way as well as an assortment of blades.
I'd like to try all of the blades to see how they work for me, and I probably don't want to start at the top of the heap and then work down. On the other hand, I want good enough results while I work out the technique so I don't get discouraged.
The choices for now:
Merkur Super Platinum
Feather New Hi-Stainless Platinum
Crystal or "Israeli"
Derby Extra
Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge
Astra Superior Platinum
BIC Chrome Platinum
DORCO Platinum ST-300
Red Pack Israeli
Based on all that I have read I probably want to wait on the Feathers and possibly the Gillette. Maybe start with Crystal?
I guess it doesn't surprise anyone here that in a matter of a couple of days I went from not wanting to look for coupons for the cartridges any more, to having not one, but two, razors and a blade assortment on the way. Hopefully this will not become an affliction like knives have always been.
