Since starting using a DE this month, I usually go for a DFS. I find with my beard (and technique) that requires an ATG pass. I usually "pretend" I'm going for BBS, knowing full well I'll end up with DFS. Although BBS is fairly easy on my cheeks, I'm not sure I'll ever get (or want) that on my neck.
Today, I had less time and had to keep the shave time on the lower end. Furthermore, this is my last night shift for a while, so I'll go back to shaving in the morning instead of the late afternoon/evening, so I didn't necessarily want it as short. As such, I only did WTG and XTG passes. I ended up with CCS by the definition (no stubble when rubbed WTG, minimal XTG), but to my eyes, it looks more SAS. This seems to be sort of the same as my experience with DFS: I "try" for BBS and end up one notch below that.
One other point: to save some time, I washed my face with shave soap in the shower, then used Cremo Cream brushless. Not sure what I think about that. It is described as really slick, and maybe it is if you lather it. It did fine for my CCS shave, but I wouldn't trust it for ATG.
