I've been doing this for about 15 years or so. I bought into many ideas early on, such as that this is the way to get the best possible shave, and that cartridge razors are bad for your skin. There is truth in these statements, though they might be overstated somewhat.
Here are my real reasons:
1) Its cool! I just like it. I love the look and feel of a DE. More than the quality of the shave, I just like DEs and wet-shaving. The aesthetics of the whole thing are just wonderful.
