Day 1 straight razor shaving and day 1 on this forum.
Right off the bat I had a brain fart moment and went blade first (as if I was sharpening a knife). I realized my error after a couple of passes and a knick in the leather, much to my dismay. The good thing is I had almost zero pressure on the blade, did not see any visible damage, and the shave afterwards (after some correct stropping) was noticeably better than my safety razor.
