I approached the end of 2016 reflecting on my 5+ year return to DE wet shaving journey. I won't reiterate here but it has been a lot of fun and after about years of razor, blade, brush, soap, cream, and aftershave acquisition I find I am very satisfied and I am aiming for some structure and simplicity. I have over 15 razors, about a dozen brushes, 10+ soaps and creams and a few hundred blades. In other words, I' set for awhile and I'm not burning up the Internet looking or new things. You could say I am settling into a comfortable routine in which I can enjoy each razor, brush, soap, etc. for its' qualities and switching around has lost its appeal. About a year ago I embarked on an unofficial "one blade per week" challenge and after a year I have learned that I am comfortable with a 7-day run on every blade I use. So, counting a few skipped days of shaving or travel I am set on a 50 blade/year course.
All this said, I looked to the new year for a theme or some shaving resolutions. I joined in on the 2017 Shave Purchase Sabbatical , The Year of the Walking Dead thread. I will also embark on a monthly Shave or the Month theme which I will pick and post at the beginning of each month. The goal is to pick one razor, one blade brand, one soap or cream, and perhaps one brush and stay with that set up for the month. I have found when I stick with one razor, blade, soap, etc. I really can appreciate my shaves without changing variables. So, here we go into a year of simplicity and consistency!
