I'm still quite new to DE shaving. At the moment I'm using two razors - Parker 26C and EJ DE86, which I'm quite happy with, but been pondering a lot lately about getting a vintage Gillette. I've read quite a bit about the different models and watched lots of reviews on youtube about them. Suffice it to say, the more I looked, the more alluring they've become.
I've narrowed my search down to one of the TTO models, but I'm still unsure which one would work best for me.
My shortlist would be the black handle Super Speed and one of the Slim adjustable (the original slim, the 84 or the 109).
On one hand, the Slims attract me a little more due to the adjustability, which is something I'd like to try and may be get better shaves with once I find the right setting for me. My only hesitation is based around the fact they are more prone to failure in the long run, due to higher number of parts and complexity of construction.
On the other hand, the Super Speed seems a bit more straight forward, less prone to failing (having a simpler and more straight forward construction compared to the adjustables) and a smooth all-round shaver. This seems to me as a safer option for someone getting their feet wet with vintage Gillettes.
I'd be interested on your guys' remarks and advice about the above.
Are the adjustables durable enough in the long run? What should I be looking for or avoid?
