Not sure if lather retention is quite the right description, but here's what I'm wondering: I have one brush that I like quite a bit. It's a large 23mm x 63mm Stirling Kong synthetic brush. Very soft and luxurious. Whips up a lather nicely enough (I'm not experienced enough to compare it to others). But the damn thing soaks up and holds a bowlful of lather like a hungry whale. Yes, I can squeeze it all out in order to use it, but I prefer bowl lathering as opposed to palm lathering and with this solution I just end up with a huge handful of lather, kind of defeating the purpose of bowl lathering, for me.
So, is this brush soaking up the lather a trait of synthetic brushes alone, or all brushes? Is it user error? Is this just a part of lathering with a brush I will have to adapt to, or are there brushes (synthetic or otherwise) that won't load all the lather internally, but rather whip it up more superficially and leave most of it in the bowl?
Thanks for any insight you might have.
