A few weeks back, I was convinced by work friends to purchase a ticket to a Scotch tasting and cigar event. I think it's something every man or woman should try at least once.
Tonight, I had sampled 15 out of 21 different types of Scotch from Glenlivet, Smokehead, Bushmills, Cardhu, Ardbeg, Bruichladich, Dewars, Jura and more.
As the night went on, the taste of most could only be described as what I imagine paint thinner to taste like. Most of the more expensive brands smelled of pure rubbing alcohol. I tapped out after the 15th sample. While I wouldn't go out of my way to buy any of these, I did find it interesting that a cheaper bottle of Speyburn I had sampled earlier this month, tasted far superior to those that had been aged for over a decade.
While I was disappointed that the outcome was as such, I'd still suggest anyone to attend a tasting event like the one I had attended.
At least I can enjoy my Crown Royal black, or other spiced whiskys, knowing that I stepped out of my comfort zone to get something new.
I also learned that Romeo and Juliets are still my favourite cigar, and that I'm not of fan of cigars made in Nicaragua. (I smoke maybe 2 times a decade.)
Thanks for reading.
