Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap Review.

After hearing about Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap, here and on other shaving websites, I decided to bit the bullet and order a bar of it to try for myself.

It arrived yesterday afternoon from Amazon.com with a purchase price of $7.17 for a 4.25 Oz bar.

As soon as I unpacked it, I started noticing the rather strong scent of the product so into a sandwich sized ZipLoc bag until it was time to shave this morning.

Anyway, I "Bloom" the soap by adding some hot water into the bag, soak my brush and shower.

After the shower, I pour some of the water out of the bag into my mug, load my brush and then I built my lather.

Like it says on the box, this dark brown soap lathers white.

And boy does it produce a very large quantity of a thick white lather very quickly indeed!

It felt very "Slick" to my face, kinda "Silky" for want of a better term and provided a great 4 pass shave without any irritation at all.

After the residue had been washed from my face and neck, then dried, I applied my Witch Hazel as usual and then went to clean up my gear while waiting for the Witch Hazel to dry.

As usual, I put my mug and brush in the sink, ran hot water to clean my brush and mug and I was extremely surprised to find see the sink filling up with lather. And lots of it to the point where it came halfway up the side of the sink (the soapy lather not the water) and it took additional time to clean that up but I was happy to do so.

I had mentioned the scent of the product and the best way I can describe it is like a combination of a campfire with a dash of Turpentine added. The stuff definitely needs to be stored in an airtight container unless you want your entire shave den smelling of the stuff.

Tomorrow, I will up the ante and use in the shower as well as washing my hair with it.

But as far as a shaving soap goes, and without taking the scent into consideration, I have to give Grandpa's Five Stars!

Let's block ads! (Why?)
