Baili BD-17 Review

My new Baili BD17 and Tabac Original sharrivedaving stick both arrived yesterday so I'll do a double whammy review
The shaving stick cost me €8,80 on eBay + €3,78 for delivery from England to Spain
The Baili BD17 cost me €6,19 including delivery from Hong Kong to Spain at auction on eBay, the Buy It Now price is a bit higher because it was a test auction as an introductory offer.

Curtain Raiser - Tabac Original 100g Shaving Stick
Nice sweetish, spicy, "soapy" scent
Easy to apply to the face. Used my Unbranded Chinese horsehair brush to effortlessly whip up a nice thick, slick, creamy lather with plenty of cushion.
Plenty of lather in the bristles for 3 passes - 2 buffs
Face felt soft, smooth and supple after shaving
This one's a definite keeper, I especially like the very user friendly screw-top on the large sized plastic shaving stick container.

The Main Event - Baili BD17 Rose Gold TTO Razor
First Impressions
Without any shadow of a doubt, this razor will become a very good friend of mine very quickly!!
The plastic box with the mirror inside the lid is sturdy enough for use when travelling, nice "velvety" lining, space for a tuck of 10x blades of choice
The razor has a nice rose gold finish, which gives it a nice individual look compared to a Weishi.
I like the wide, chunky head which completely conceals the tabs on the blade, the blade fits snugly into place with virtually no blade play.
The handle is deeply knurled with a nice contrast, which gives it another individual look over a Weishi. The handle is mid way between a standard Weishi and an extra long Weishi in length, which is the perfect length for me.
The handle is also slightly fatter than a Weishi, which feels very comfortable.
The TTO action was a little bit squeaky at first, but after working the action a few times, it opens and closes smoothly, the doors open and close smoothly and fit perfectly.
There is very little difference in weight between my Weishi 9306CL and the BD17, so for me it's just right.
After a little research, I have seen an identical razor on Amazon, being sold as a Jagen David B40. IMHO this one on eBay is a better buy.
Here are the 2 links for comparison, also there are some nice large sized pics too.

First (Very Nice) Shave
I used my horsehair brush and my new Tabac Original shaving stick to lather up.
I deliberately loaded the razor with a Sputnik blade that I had already used twice before. Most of my blades give up the ghost on day 3, so I wanted to see the worst case scenario with my new razor.
I like the fact that when it is loaded, the razor hasn't got the tabs from the blade sticking out of the side, I occasionally get a nick from one of the tabs when I'm shaving underneath my nostrils.

WTG - It glided down my face smoothly and effortlessly, there is a fair bit of audible feedback, which is something that I like. Judging the "cutting" area of the head takes a bit of judgement, but I soon got used to it, the smooth areas either side of the blade's edge leave a tideline of lather either side of where the blade has shaved, which is more of an asset than a hindrance. It cuts a fair bit closer than my Weishi does

XTG - Nice and smooth, still plenty of nice feedback, utilizing the "tidelines" for judging the "business area" of the head is a breeze

ATG - Razor moves upwards with very little resistance, now I've got a feel for the razor, I can go a little bit faster just to see what this baby is capable of

Buffing N-S - The blade is getting a bit dull, but not too dull to get the job done, this razor is just aggressive enough to keep on cutting
Buffing S-N - With this razor I quite literally squeezed every last bit of usefulness out of the blade, it began to drag a little at the end - I think that the Weishi would have dragged twice as much

After the 1st cold towel, alum block, 5 minutes waiting, 2nd cold towel and a splash of Old Spice Pure Sport, my face felt like a million dollars - I never expect a BBS from anything, but this was a DFS!!
Overall, I'm very pleased with my new razor - when I use it tomorrow with a new Ladas blade, I think I might even get my 1st ever BBS !!
IMHO, if you like a Weishi, then you'll love this one !!
YMMV

Some pics to show the difference in size compared to a Weishi, also difference in exposure of tabs on blades. Weishi and Baili razors are both loaded with blades
