I've been kicking around the idea of purchasing a badger brush since before I bought my first puck of shaving soap, but the number of choices and prices is downright intimidating and I'm hoping I can get some advice before I pull the trigger on one.
I currently have a Semogue 830 and a Maggard's 24mm synthetic. The Semogue is pretty well broken in and they both have features that I like, but both seem to be missing something.
I've looked at a lot of posts and have checked out several vendors and I'm definitely leaning towards a finest badger. My favorite feature of the Semogue is the backbone, while my preferred feature on the synthetic is the softer tips and the finest seems to incorporate both.
Another point in favor of the finest is price. I'd like to stay at or below $50. The two that I've seen the most are Frank Shaving and Vintage Blades. I think I'd prefer a denser knot as that is another thing I like about the synthetic.
The $50 is preferred but not a deal breaker, and it seems like I can get the most bang for my buck with the finest in that range, but I'm open to suggestions regarding best or silver tip as well. I know there are some ridiculously knowledgeable and experienced people on these forums and would greatly appreciate your insight.
