I'm officially crying "help" , maybe someone has some insight. I get really rough shaves with MLSW soaps, and I don't understand why.
I first tried them through a sample from Maggard's, the Drunken Goat scent. I used the same brush (Simpson Duke 3) same Razor (ATT R1), same blade type (Feather), same water and technique as with other soaps that I've had fantastic shaves with (B&M, CRSW, Reef Point), and while I'm able to get a nice, dense lather, it feels like I'm dragging a blade across uncovered skin.
I figured it might be the scent itself, so I ordered a sample of the Drunken Goat again, with the Reunion and Colonia di Agrumi scents. Same deal; nice lather, terrible shave, and I gave it about 4 tries with 2 different blades.
Lastly, because I like the Drunken Goat scent so much I decided to order a full tub of it in case it was an issue of having trouble lathering the samples in a small jar (which happened to me with Reef Point, where ordering a full tub allowed me more room to build a lather as opposed to trying to lather a small sample, which I have trouble with). Same deal; rough shave, no protection.
I don't get it. The ingredient list looks like it'd be a solid performer, but I can't get a decent shave from it. It's all the same variables as what gets me great shaves with other soaps, so I'm at a loss here. I even tried different blades (Gillette Blue) and a different razor (my Merkur 34C) but same rough shaving experience. It's not that I can't get a lather; it's that it doesn't seem to offer much protection to my face. FYI, I generally like dense lathers as opposed to voluminous lather, and apply lather using several painting strokes.
Anyone? Thanks in advance.
Mickey Lee Soapworks, am I doing something wrong?
