Truthfully, there is no amount of wordsmithing I can do that will add to the Lexicon of the 3T's creams. Their performance is well known both by the longevity of their companies and reviews ad nauseam on this board. I will do my best to provide some insight to the scent and feel of this particular cream.
The container was quite cold when I first got it, having sat on the front porch from delivery for several hours in the winter. Cracking the lid, my first impression of the scent was cool and crisp. The odor from the cream was exactly like how a stick of peppermint chewing gum tastes.
It was several days before I got around to shaving with this cream. I tackled a three-days growth with my Feather Artist Club folder and pro blade for my usual two pass + touch up shave. The lather was built in a DB scuttle using a custom best badger brush.
I placed the now room temperature cream on the counter and opened the lid. I could immediately smell the peppermint. Lifting the container for a closer sniff, I would say the scent had become somewhat.....medicinal, but not unpleasant (temperature change affecting odor?). I built a nice later in the scuttle and would say the scent of peppermint in the air really did not change. But, when sniffing the lather on the brush, I would say the scent of the peppermint had become more herbaceous; but again, not unpleasant.
I lathered for the first pass and allowed the cream to sit a bit to see how it felt on my skin. The scent on my skin seemed very light. I really could not detect the slight medicinal odor from the tub, nor the slight herbal scent from the brush - it was just a slight, clean peppermint scent. I could detect the slight tingling/cooling from the peppermint oil on my lips, but no where else. However, while shaving, I did begin to feel the slight cooling affects on my skin. I typically do a warm water rinse between passes. I detected no changes from the first rinse, but applying the lather for the second pass really brought out the cooling from the peppermint oils. The second pass also seemed to amplify the cooling from the oils.
I will apply alum and let it rest while I clean up my hardware and sink. This did seem to mitigate the cooling sensation on my skin. I always do a final rinse with cold water - this brought out an arctic blast that was really amazing! I closed out with Myrsol Blue AS and my skin felt amazing. I did not really notice any lingering scent of peppermint on my skin post shave, but entering my bathroom about 10 min post shave and I could still detect the peppermint on the air.
Over the years, I think I've tried almost every scent of TOBS creams. For me, I would place the peppermint toward the top of the pack. I would recommend giving it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Happy Shaves!
