More of a rut than restraint.
Wet shaver all my adult life. Started in the mid-sixties with Gillette razors and canned cream (Foamy & Rise). Went through the "cart era", Sensor, Atra, never went past the two bladed ones. Got a EJ DE for Christmas six years ago with some Wilkinson Sword blades. On a whim, got a VDH bowl & brush set and then found this site. Started ordering different soaps, creams an OC razor, a few new brushes, some blade samplers, etc.
So, after a few years of experimenting and trying out lots of different products (thanks to you enablers) I'm down to a rotation of two. Two razors, two soaps/cream, two blades, two brushes, two after shaves, two bowls (one is actually a mug).
My permanent line-up
Razors: EJ DE87 and RazoRock Jaws OC
One month on, one month off
Blades: Astra SP and Personna red
7 shaves each blade, either razor.
(probably have a lifetime supply as I ordered a couple hundred of each brand)
Soaps/ Cream: Proraso red soap and Proraso white cream
Every other day
Brushes: Semogue 620 and Omega 10086
Every other day
Bowl/Mug:
VDH starter and Burma-Shave mug
VDH for the cream, mug loaded with Proraso red soap
Every other day
After Shaves:
Pinaud Clubman and Pinaud VIBR
Depends on mood - I'm very unpredicatble
These products work great for me. I get DFS to BBS most days as I'm retired and can take my time. I shave every morning. Only prep is fairly hot water on my face, then lather, two passes, couple touch ups, cold water rinse, then shower and after shave splash. I have a heavy gray beard (used to be dark brown).
I guess to a lot of you folks this seems kind of boring considering all the potential combinations of hardware & software available. And reading posts and reviews on this forum is certainly tempting and getting stuff in the mail is fun and.....I better stop now or I'll be clicking over to one of the suppliers web sites and.........................
