Hi everyone and thank you in advance for your help with this inquiry.
I just purchased this Gillette Aristocrat #70 without a case, and I’m trying to verify that it’s really a #70.
Here are it’s vitals: it weighs 73.6 grams (on a cheap scale), the center bar is pinned, patent number is 694093, and it has the “II” stamp on the bottom plate, however it’s on the right side above the “Made in England” stamp. When I checked Mr Razors site it shows the #70 with the “II” stamp on the left side above the “Gillette” stamp. I have searched the web for photos of claimed to be #70’s bottom plates and I have found them with the “II” on either side (I can provide photos if it will help).
My questions are:
- Does the “II” stamp on either side of the bottom plate still make it a #70 or does it’s placement mean something else?
-Are there any other characteristics to help distinguish a #70 from a #66?
-Is this razor really a #70?
Here’s a previous discussion that had some helpful information:

The last photo on that page shows the pinned center bar and “II” stamp on the left but I think the weights are incorrect according to the Mr Razor site.
Thank you again for any information you can offer.
