DE Shave Virgin no more. All in all, a pretty great experience. I have been lathering with a brush and creams/soaps for some time using cartridge blades so that's all pretty well nothing new. Bought the sampler pack from West Coast along with the Edwin Jagger Laser Diamond head/handle. For the first shave, I went with the Derby blade that was included, and in time will no doubt try the others I ended up with in the pack. A few questions:
1) I did try the alum block afterwords, and even though I didn't see/feel any nicks during the shave, the block did help me feel a few places that were more sensitive than the others (where I figured- neck line, throat). The "sealing" was something I enjoyed. My question here is, for those who use alum, do you use the block THEN put on aftershave, balm, etc. OR do you put on the balm to be followed up with alum in effect sealing in the product?
2) I have read quite a bit on here about razor (handle/head) maintenance and cleaning, but specific to the actual razor blade, post shave I noticed some cream residue on the actual blade (I took it apart after the first shave) despite having soaked it post shave, shaken it out, etc. Do I need to open the razor up each time to wipe this residue off the blade after each shave, leave it be, or perhaps there was something wrong with my cream lather which made it too thick to easily rinse off the internal parts of the razor/blade? It would seem a bit too cumbersome to need to clean the actual blade after each use, but perhaps that's called for?
