There's a lot of love for Thäter brushes at B&B, but you don't often see any mention of the 4376 line. 4125's, with their iconic screwdriver handle are clearly the most talked about, with the 4292s a distant second. When perusing the vendor sites, for some reason my eyes always drifted over to the 4376s, buried on the depth chart. I could only find 2 vendors that actually carry them. Well, why not go for it.
My 4376/4 arrived a few days ago and it has made a fantastic first impression. The brush has a 3-band bulb measuring 24/54 and a plexiglass handle shaped as a square (as opposed to the 4125 octagon). Total height is 103mm. The bulb is not as steep as some other Thäters I've seen, which I like since I'm more of a fan guy typically. But I am finding at least initially that this brush has more backbone than expected. I've used 4292 Fans in 2-band and liked them but did find them borderline floppy. I was a bit nervous that the 4376 3-band would cross that border, but I have been pleasantly surprised. It''s holding up nicely in both a bowl lather and face lather. The bulb shape really does help with such soft hair. And i believe the 4376 has shorter lofts than the equivalent brushes in the 4292 line. Of course, not even a hint of scritch as you would expect no less from this brand. Pure luxury.
As for the unusual square handle, let me just say that it is beautiful in both form and function. When face lathering, the fat edges on the trunk provide a secure grip. When bowl lathering, you grab on to the "foot" and swirl away. This is definitely a keeper.
