It's been a year since I've shaved with a regular cartridge and given that the last one was Gillette's five bladed monstrosity that continually mauled my face, I wasn't expecting anything fancy or even acceptable from the Guard.
Unpacking the razor really didn't help with the expectations either since it was very light and very, very, plasticky if that's even a word. If it wasn't then it is now ;-)
I did the usual prep, warm water rinse.
Lathered up a sample of Nanny's Old Grey Bristle Test that I recently am trying out
Using my winning combination of a Simpson Colonel in a dotted bowl from Symmetrical Pottery, gave me a nice, thick and slick lather.
I decided to do the same routine as the DE i.e. XTG, ATG and touch ups.
The result? Perplexed slightly I was.
Cartridge razors, especially cheapo plastic junk, are supposed to give awful to passable shaves.
This one gave me a perfect, irritation free, BBS.
And, as an added bonus, I only took me half the time shaving than it would have if I had used a DE.
Conclusion.
If traveling without checked baggage then this is what I'd bring with me but I'm too much of an Italian not to travel with all my pretty clothes ;-)
In my checked baggage I'd bring all of my DE gear, though geared towards face lathering
DE is the way to go for me but if I ever, god forbid, decided to get off the wagon and return to cartridges, then I'd buy a cartload of Gillette Guards and call it a day.
They're dirt cheap and they shave wonderfully.
YMM, of course, V :-)
Cheers!
