I recently bought a Richard Black badger brush off of his’ Etsy site (from Woodstocknsticks) to go with my new purple scuttle. To me, I have only been blown away by two brushes; one a Simpson’s Special Pure Badger (because it was so small I wasn’t expecting alot) and the Richard Black Brush. I knew the brush was pretty, and it was advertised as “Silver Tip badger hair,” but to be honest I really wasn’t expecting much more than my silver tip brushes.
Well, I put the brush in my scuttle to soak while I went to strop my razor, and when I came back, I couldn’t believe all the water that brush was holding. I shook some out, got a little TOB’s coconut and went to work in the scuttle. It absolutely exploded the lather and cut my lather prep time in half. Then I put that warm lather brush on my face and I felt like I was in heaven. The brush was super smooth and it continued making even more lather on my face.
The Richard Black Badger Brush was an extremely good value at $65, and I would stack it up against an brush I have. According to the web site, “the knot in this brush is 24mm Silver Tip badger hair, the best of the best for shaving brushes. I made the custom handle from an awesome piece of Charoite Tru-Stone. The overall height of this brush is 3.75 inches and the loft 49mm.” According to his’ Etsy site, Richard will also do custom requests. No doubt, I will be getting another brush from Richard in the near future.
