In 1971, I bought an expensive no-name badger brush in London, I think at Floris. Used it for YEARS, until literally worn out. Kept on using other brushes, but this one was the one I loved. Moved this year, and it turned up, just as I went back to DE shaving after The Bad Years with blue Bics, Mach 3, etc.
I read about Larry at Whipped Dog here, and I sent the brush off to him to get it restored with a silvertip knot. I fussed a bit, looking at the pics here, trying to decide on depth, etc., until I realized: he has the brush, and he is the expert. So I just let him do his job.
Got the brush back today. Just used it, for the best shave imaginable.
Shower
Geo. Trumper Coral Skin Food
WD silvertip brush, 20mm, 55mm (?) loft, vintage browned handle
D. R. Harris Rose Shave Cream
Utilemud shaving bowl
Gillette 195 (1960 Fatboy)
Wilkinson Blade (new)
Cold water
Alum block
More Coral Skin Food
4711 cologne as a splash
Thanks to Larry. Thanks to all here whose comments have been so informative and interesting.
No pictures tonight, but looking at everyones pics of their set-ups has spurred me on to get organized and take a few, at least of the brush.
