I've been a brush-soap latherer for all my shaving life. I just returned to DE shaving, and I love it. I used Floris Lemon Verbena for years, then no-name soaps, then recently Geo. F. Trumper Rose soap. I have been exploring other creams and soaps, loving TOBS Grapefruit, Cella, some of the Trumper cream samples. Rose and Almond are my favorite scents.
Enough background. After reading here about how good the Stirling soaps are, I ordered a puck of their Rose soap. I had it for probably a month before I wetted and used it twice in a row. Very good lather, but no scent whatsoever. I don't expect a lasting scent from a lather, just pleasantness while I lather and shave.
If I stick my nose right into the puck, there is the very faintest of aromas; otherwise, nothing. My Trumper Rose, open in an old wooden bowl, still has a good level of scent after three months in the open.
What am I doing wrong? Should I soak it overnight? Should I grate it? Can I do anything to bring out the scent? The soap was a little more expensive, due to the cost of the rose fragrance, so I would like to get the rose scent I paid for. Otherwise, bath soap, I guess, joining other "artisan" soaps that missed the boat.
Thanks very much.
