Saw a few other members doing a small journal so figured I may as well. If nothing else it will make for some great reference notes for myself.
The other night my wife surprised me with a brand new Parker 12R that came with a free sample pack of blades. This has been mentioned to be a generally more aggressive razor but the temptation was too strong! I set out all my supplies and did a bit of de-stink on my brush, hopped in the shower and then hunkered down. I should note that I do plan on switching to a more consistent setup for at least a month once the rest of my supplies arrive in the mail and also that I will only be shaving my cheek and neck area for now as I maintain a moustache and long goatee combo.
The first thing that was evident that creating a nice lather is much more difficult than it looks and will be a big area that I will need to work on. Aside from this I took my time, did 2 passes with the grain, one with/with a little bit of against in thick areas, and then a little bit of touch up. My second pass resulted in a few minor nicks on my jaw line (styptic pencils are magical!!!) and I could tell that I was not quite getting enough protection from my poor lather as I would have liked but all in all it was a very nice shave, much closer already than my previous dry electric + cartridge cleanup routine of death. It was definitely different but I am already excited for round two!
-=Shave 1=-
Razor: Parker 12R
Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless
Brush: Omega 10005
Soap: Wilkinson Sword
Growth: About a weeks worth
Result: Decent shave with a few minor nicks and a slight bit of irritation.
Notes: Work on producing a more dense lather. Practice blade angle. Be more conscious of beard growth patterns between strokes. Become accustomed to letting the blade do the work.
