I recently purchased a King 6k on the Bakelite base. I killed the edge on the side of it and did a ratio of 2 edge trailing to 1 edge leading strokes for a good while. Next I did 5 laps on the cotton component of my SRD paddle strop treated with .5 CrOx. Then I spent a good while on the untreated smooth leather component of the paddle.
