This quick note is not intended to discuss what is now common knowledge regarding James’ fit and finish of the shaving heads.
It is simply to show the customization available. James etched my initials in the base plate. NICE! But wrt to function, note the inscription underneath the “Wolfman” name. It reads: "OC .57 SB .48".
This dual-comb head features an Open Comb gap of 0.57, and a Safety Bar gap of 0.48. Below are pics hoping to show the etching and the respective blade gaps. My camera and my skills aren't allowing me to truly capture the blade gaps, however. Presently, I have the Wolfman head on an EJ handle. I’m hoping to eventually get a handle from James.
The Shave:
On the first day, I put it to the test, shaving 3-days of growth. Even with the less-than standard blade gap of 0.61, the OC 0.57 mowed down the first wtg pass in style. I could have stopped there with a close comfortable shave. The next pass (xtg) I used the OC on my neck, and the SB for the rest of the face. The final pass was reserved for only the SB. Having the SB set at 0.48 was especially nice for me, as the area under my nose is very sensitive, and shaving ATG is normally rough….but this SB setting made it very doable, without tugging or pain.
Side note:
Every now and then, new or slightly used Wolfman razor products appear on Ebay - and usually at scalper’s prices. If anyone is trying to get a razor or razor part from James, hang in there. My first couple of times up at bat, I struck out. Eventually, I was able to get a fine razor head, AND at his - very reasonable price. I didn’t pay the incredibly high eBay prices.
