I'm shopping for a birth-year (1949) razor, a Gillette Super Speed as they're affordable. Being born in 1949 complicates things a bit.
It's my understanding that the notched center rail was introduced in 1948 and the lettering on the baseplate was changed in 1950 from "PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE" TO "PAT. NOS. ON PKG.", and that the red superspeed case with a transparent cover was introduced in 1949. So if I've got it right, the 1948 & 1949 SS were identical except for the case.
That means I need to look for a SS with no date code, notched center rail, "PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE" and a red/clear case? Have I got that right, or have I missed something?
