I just bought a T2 1973 Super Adjustable "Black Beauty" Long handle. I've been looking for a fairly clean one for some time now, and found this one on Etsy for $35 shipped. A decent price I feel, but I'd also appreciate comments on that. It was pretty clean when I received it.
Nonetheless, it got the full treatment. After boiling the razor for 15 minutes and giving it a boiling Barbacide bath, I went to it with a toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies; until I realized ALL the paint on the numbers on the collar had come off between the boiling and the vigorous toothbrush cleaning. I was pretty distraught, but then had an idea that could potentially bring it back to life. I had recently purchased a black paint pen off ebay for another project, and though to try painting the numbers back in. Well, it worked like a charm. It was a bit messy at first, as the pen was not a fine tip. So I basically just colored over each number until it looked like a blob of paint. Then with a sturdy round toothpick, I scraped the excess paint off. It took some trial and error for me to realize NOT to use the tip of the toothpick, as it kept accidentally slipping into the recessed numbers and scraping off the paint I wanted to keep. So I ended up using the side of the toothpick to scrape over the number (as seen in the first pic), that way I wasn't scraping into the recess. I wish I had taken pics along the way, but I only thought to grab my phone after I was done and they were shiny again. I also fixed up my trusty Slim Adjustable that was in need of some paint as well. I think they turned out pretty well! Just know that the Black Beauty's painted numbers were all gone.
