Problem with burned, irritated skin solved

I thought I might share a little about a recent experience with what I believed was a case of really bad razor burn.

About a few months ago, I realized I had become really comfortable DE shaving after finally switching from an electric. However, one day in September I noticed a bad bit of irritation covering one cheek. I thought this was odd; my cheeks have never had any issues with irritation or razor burn before. I thought it would go away in a day, but instead it got really bad over the next few days that skin was flaking off like crazy. It was kind of gross. I stopped shaving for a few days for it to heal, and it cleared up.
I tried to search for a reasonable cause for this much irritation. Was it a new product I used? Maybe, even though only one cheek was effected. Spot checked everything, and got no reaction on my skin. Too much pressure and/or a bad blade? I thought this must have been the culprit.
A few weeks later the same thing happened! I couldn't really pinpoint a bad shaving experience that caused this (no burning or redness within an hour after a shave), and I wasn't shaving every day. I gave it a few days, and after some dry, flaking skin it cleared up and I continued getting great shaves.
Then last week, it happened again! Except this time isolated on the other cheek! I finally noticed a pattern: I'm currently in a long distance relationship and this was happened every time I was visiting my girlfriend. Over Thanksgiving, we were staying with family and for some reason we slept on opposite sides of the bed than we normally do (corresponding to the red side of my face).
It turns out that my skin does not like one of the (prescription-strength) skin products she recently started using at night. Her forehead tends to rest on my cheek on night, getting that stuff all over me. Mystery solved, and thankfully it's not my bad shaving at fault! Be careful with the skin products you chose, for they can affect those around you.
