Hi there
I have been using a cheap de for a couple of years without much thought, changing from a cartridge and just randomly shaving as I always have. More recently I discovered [email protected]
and decided to take shaving more seriously. After some thought I bought a Merkur Progress because I wasn't sure how aggressive a razor would suit me.It arrived last Sunday and I have been practising with it over the week, using the Murkur blade it came with, first on setting 1 and only moving up to 2.5 today. I must say I like the razor and I'm getting a better shave.
I have never had too much trouble with weepers, of course I get a couple now and then. Today I got a couple and was a little disappointed. Part of the reason I'm sure is that now I am trying three passes and trying to get a closer shave and I'm sure gradually turning up the razor increases the risk.
So now my new plan is this; I have cleaned the razor and put in a new Feather, I have used them before in my old razor and liked the close shave, then practice on setting one before moving up again. I have heard it said that getting a sampler pack is a good idea but I have also heard that sticking to a single blade while perfecting technique and between razors eliminates that variable, which seems to me a good plan. What do you think? Too risky with a feather?
Also I was wondering how aggressive those who know their razors would rate the progress on 1,3,or5?
