Are you using cartridges or a convertor? If either is not seated properly, ink can leak from around the base. solution is to seat the cartridge / convertor more firmly. The second possibility with a convertor is a leaky ink sac or on a screw type convertor, ink leaking past the seal on the plunger unit and out the top. Try taking the convertor out, filling it with water, and seeing if the sides start showing water beads. Solution here is to get a new convertor.
