Hi everybody,
for a relatively small sum of money I purchased and just received here in Italy a quite well maintained 1902 Star SE razor with wooden handle, wooden original box, stropping tool (very interesting piece of belle epoque engraving !) + a few blades.
For the moment I am not planning to actually use this Kamfe Star for shaving but , in case I would do so, I should certainly proceed to thoroughly clean, hone and strop it first . While handling it this morning however I detected a possible problem. The blade once fitted in, is firmly kept in place by the rear retainer spring , but the the part of the razor where the blade is inserted (i.e. the hinged portion where the word STAR is hetched) keeps on swinging back and forth apparently without any locking mechanism apt to keep the razor closed. Looking inside the so-called lather catcher I can see that right at the centre of the hinge there are two small overlapping metal flaps that, in order to hold the razor closed, should be kept together by someting like a spring, a forelock or something like it. I believe that such part was easily removable to open the razor to clean it inside. Maybe now it is broken or lost on mine.
Can anybody help me with a picture to understand what was such part? Thanks Valerio
