Straights purerockfury's sorta journal.

I decided I am going to try giving this online journaling a try. This is mostly to see if I can get myself to break from my laziness at least a little bit. So here we go.

Thanks to the great people on this site I have been able to make the switch from a cartridge to a de to now straight razors. It has been a great slow change happening over the past few years, so thank you all for the info, pif's and random gifts.

So it has been about a year since I started using a straight razor. Some hiccups in the beginning but that is expected in any new venture. I still use the de for certain sections of my face especially going atg. My chin and neck are horrible to shave and a lot of times I will skip the atg pass in these areas. Everything I have tried so far does not work and I always get some kind of irritation or bunch of weepers. I will keep trying new things and see if I can't figure it out already.

Currently I am using a shavette (unknown brand) with shark blades. An adjustable de with gillette blades (forget which ones off the top of my head). Software is Dr. Jon's Hydra shave soap and aftershave, this is currently my favorite scent to shave with and I will hopefully get to try a few more of their soaps and aftershaves in the future. Brush and shaving bowl are both unknown.

All of these items were either bought for very very cheap from the people of these forums or won in a pif or contest or given to me by you overly generous people.

I have a few shave soap samples from Stirling Soap Co. to still give a try but that Dr. Jon's has taken over. I also have a shave cream to try, again off the top of my head I can't remember the name of. I also use Stirling's witchhazel and love it and so does my face. I do have a Whipped Dog straight but it is desperate need of some tlc. I really ruined the edge trying to use the strop I got and then tried to use the balsa/oxide strop and that's where I think things went really wrong.

I will in the future get at least two or three more cheap straights that way I can have one to use at all times while I send them out for honing.
