I wish I could figure out what's causing this irritation (see attached photos). Figuring out exactly what it is, is the first step. I think it's just simply razor bumps ... or itchiness as the hair is coming back in? My best guess would be that it's just your standard razor bumps/irritation. It doesn't show up right away, either - it seems to show up 24 to 48 hours after I shave. It seems to happen in the same general area all the time - either on the side of my neck or along my jawline.
Really looking for some feedback/opinions on what's happening here. As I said, it looks like razor bumps. I know it's not ingrown hairs - that I can rule out. Just odd that razor bumps/irritation would show up 24 ~ 48 hours afterward (or maybe that's not unusual?).
My prep routine and hardware/software doesn't vary to much. I use a facial scrub in the shower to soften the beard, step out of the shower and shave. I use a badger brush and I face lather using a high quality cream or soap. I use a Merkur HD and either a Kai or Gillette 7 o'clock black label blade. Most times my shave is comfortable, but this irritation shows up 24~48 hours later. Like a delayed reaction.
I would like to think that this is just simply a case of paying closer attention to my technique - not being so aggressive in these areas - taking my time - and being GENTLE. I just can't imagine that this is caused by any one particular product. It's got to be something that I'm doing wrong. I just can't see throwing out various creams, soaps, and aftershaves, thinking that's the culprit when it's probably not! That's why it's so frustrating not knowing what's causing it - if I knew the cause, I could fix it!
I realize that most of us here are not dermatologists ... but this irritation might look very familiar to a lot of you anyway, and maybe someone can just shed some light on what I might be doing wrong. Maybe this is a very simple fix! I just don't want to start throwing products out as a process of elimination (if I don't have to, obviously).
