Hi all!
I'm a British expat living in Moscow, Russia.
I'm only into my second week of DE shaving and so far I'm loving it.
My story started when I got fed up paying the spiralling prices of Mach3 cartridges. I'd read here and there that many men much prefer the old DE way of shaving so I started to look into it. After a lot of research (including lurking on this excellent forum) I decided to buy a Muhle R89, Muhle silvertip badger brush, TOBS Sandalwood cream and pre-shave oil and Proraso aftershave balm.
I bought nine different brands of blade and am currently spending a week with each one to see which suits me (I shave every two days during the week). Last week I tried the Astra Superior Stainless and this week I'm using the Feather Hi Stainless.
My first couple of tries had a lot of trouble around the neck area. The less aggressive R89 coupled with the mild Astra caused a lot of skin irritation - my inexperience didn't help either. However, the R89/Feather combination seems like a winner so far. The sharper blade means I need less passes and much less irritation. I even managed to do an ATG on my neck without any nicks this morning (still a bit of irritation though). ATG on my neck means across from right to left - so not the easiest of shaves - I tried scrubbing and it worked well.
Next week I'll try the Voskhod.
Anyway, hello to all and thanks for having such a great community!!
Greetings from Russia!
