Hi all!
I finally had one of those dear B&B days. I recently went into one of my local vintage stores and they had a tray of razors marked $4 each. All user grade, but many of them mechanically sound and just in need of cleaning. I spent some time picking it over pretty thoroughly and went away with 8 new toys. I've spent the last several days cleaning them up and getting them ready for their test drives.
Across the top, SC New, LC New, New Deluxe, New improved head matched to a ball end handle, Canadian Patent Tech, and an Apollo that seems to be aluminium Apollo. IT may be a frankenrazor, but the handle on the New improved head has no cracks at all and the balance of this combo feels superb.
Below the six DE's are two Gems I picked up too. First is a Heavy Flat Top aka G-bar and the second is a Bullet Tip Micromatic. Those are my first SE's and I'm kind of excited about them.
I did pass on a number of other razors. I could have picked up one of several OCMM's, but they all looked more beat up and the TTO felt pretty rough. At that price, I probably should have grabbed one anyway. I also passed on an ever-ready shovel head that had a broken blade stop and was in fairly rough shape otherwise too. There were also a number of other Techs and 20's style Olds and a few of them would have cleaned up nicely, but I decided not to be too greedy.
In one day, I went from 5 razors in my rotation to 13 so that's going to take a little getting used to. My plan is to give each one a week of daily shaves to evaluate and form an opinion. That's going to keep me busy for a while. Of my 13 razors, 12 are vintage gillettes found in the wild. It's a fun way to go as long as you're willing to keep your eyes open and strike out a lot.
Finally had a "Dear B&B" day. 8 razors 32 bucks.
