So I got excited and ordered myself some lapping films. I figure it's better to learn some honing with those before I drop a bunch of money on stones. So I bought an assortment pack without really paying attention to what was in it. It has 12, 9, 3, 1, and .5 micron sheets in it. My blades are ok. They will shave, but the second pass gets a little irritation. Can I go from 9 to 3? Or is that too big of a jump? Should I get a 5 micron to go in between? With it being essentially a touch up, could I just start with the 3?
If a 5 is recommended, has anyone ever seen them in stores? Could I use a sand paper equivalent instead? What are your thoughts? I appreciate any help.
