Hair Product Resource - The Good, The Bad And The Overrated

Putty, Wax, Clay, Cream, Gel, Pomade, Paste, Gum and everything in between - we have tried them all with various levels of hold, shine and matte.

While one product is the holy grail for certain people, it is overrated or doesn't work for others - like Hanz Du Fuko for me. I found the Claymation and Quicksand to be overrated products.

Another product line I think is overrated is Kevin Murphy. Rough Rider was too hard to work with and I found it dried out my hair and GAVE me frizz when I brushed the product through. Gritty Business and Night Rider were just incredibly average – especially considering the price. There are better drugstore hair products.

There are always people who ask what products they should use and what products they have tried. Let's all make a list of the products we have tried - the products we love, the products that were terrible, the products we think are overrated.

While I am always looking for the holy grail product like many of you, I am never really let down by:

American Crew - Fiber
American Crew - Defining Paste
Paul Mitchell - Matterial
Bedhead - Matte Separation
Redken For Men - Maneuver

And my favorite new product that I am absolutely loving:

Layrite – Natural Matte.

I have noticed that many cheap products are just as good as the really expensive ones. In fact, one product I loved - was actually made by Gillette and was called Precision Putty. Gillette's hair products didn't take off, so it was discontinued, but it was a fantastic product. While I wish the hold was a bit better, I also really like Old Spice Spiffy Pomade.
