I recently purchased a Simpson Duke 3 from an Amazon vendor. Upon first inspection I noticed that while the handle below the rings was polished perfectly smooth, above the handle were thousands of hairline scratches. Using a loupe I noticed they were very small symmetrical gouges in the resin almost as if someone had lightly held a wood rasp against it while it was still chucked up in the lathe. They are almost imperceptible to the naked eye and invisible to my camera.
Is this some Simpson technique to add grip or do I have a factory second? As you can see in the pic the label is marred also. That doesn't bother me much but reinforces a factory second hypothesis.
