On May 20, 2016 , I posted a review of Bob Quinn's (Elite Razor) new badger knots, imported from a Chinese firm which makes them to spec.
Bob's initial order of knots contained three types. In the picture below, the knots are, from left to right: 28mm Manchurian White 2-Band; 26mm High Mountain White 3-Band; and 24mm Manchurian White 2-Band.
My prior thread dealt with Bob's 28mm Manchurian White 2-Band. I noted that I was expecting another brush with Bob's 24mm Manchurian White 2-Band, and that my review of that brush would appear in this Part 2.
Here is a picture of the new brush immediately after it came out of the box. The loft is set at 50mm:
Here is the brush after one shave:
Here is the brush, also after one shave, in my hand:
The knot is nicely shaped. I would label this a hybrid knot, whereas the 28mm was a definite bulb. Here is picture of the two brushes so you can see the difference in the shape of the knots:
My 24mm knot measures 27+mm at the top of the handle, so it is well stuffed. There is no glue bump. The brush has not shed a single hair after one shave. Density appears to be just slighlty less than the 28mm (which measured 32mm + at the top of the handle) but is still quite good. The brush exhibits solid backbone, soft tips, and no scritch whatsoever. I find the knot performs well at the 50mm loft. However, there is some room to play with the loft. For those who want more backbone and scrub, the hybrid shape of the knot would allow it to still work well at a 48mm loft. For those who want more softness and splay, this knot would still have adequate backbone at a 52mm loft. The knot has excellent flow and release of lather.
These new knots from Bob are of such quality that one can have an artisan brush with both the handle and the knot being comparable to the high end brushes from a top manufacturer.
