I purchased this JNAT from one of our senior honing forum members. This is his description of the stone;
This is a very interesting Awasedo. It?s a little dry and thirsty, but it only takes on a bit of water and then it settles down. The color is Mizu blue/grey when dry and markedly green when wet. The top has a few tiny almost-white innocuous inclusions; I can?t feel them when honing and they do not affect the honing in any way.
At first I thought this was going to be a soft stone but it?s not soft at all. It?s hard with good speed. The Goma patterning is nice to look at, and it gives the stone a ?visual texture?. I?ve honed a good number of blades on this stone ? each edge was excellent and the bevels came away with a very deep haze. This is a fairly thick stone, and it?s dense enough to push back as me when honing. I like that dense feel for a bench stone; it seems to accent the feedback. Stone was found in an old beauty supply in Kinokawa.
The bottom is sealed in clear Cashew Lacquer, and the sides were treated to a burgundy/red Cashew coat. The top is lapped, the edges are chamfered.
