I was getting good shaves with the VDH TTO, but I like to explore and try new things, so this week I am trying out a Merkur. I have been using it everyday since Saturday.
Wow.
The additional weight makes a difference, and the Astra SP blade that I have been using feels good on my face. I am getting great shaves from this combo. I like it so much that I have a box of Astras on order and will be sticking with this combo for a while as I work on technique.
I will probably give the VDH razor a try with an Astra at least once, but I think I am going to delay trying any other blades from my samplers for at least a few weeks since this combo is working well. In four shaves the only nick that I have had was one weeper (yesterday). Today's shave was day 4 with the blade and I only had time for one WTG pass, but I got what I would consider a CCS.
I really get why this razor and these blades are so highly recommended, especially for newbies. I am quite happy with the way they perform so far.
Right now my only question is: do I keep my 3 remaining VDH "Ice Tempered" blades to try again later, or do they get early retirement to the blade bank?
