Ok,my steady handed friends. Thanks to your help and advice , I m finally shaving with my straight razor. Slash Mcoys recommendation to try lapping films to hone my razor myself has paid off. I didnt have to send my razor off to get honed or invest in stones. Thanks Slash! I was able to get a nice edge on my razor with about an hours worth of elbow grease. My fiance noticed me taking an interest in straight razor shaving and surprised me with a lot of gear for my birthday aswell. Im not sure of the brands or origins of the strop or brush she got me , but they seem to do the job well. Im not sure if my stropping technique is good yet, time will tell. The badger brush smelled like a badger for the first 5 shaves..my 6th shave was today. I shampooed it a couple times with unnoticeable results. Soaking it in my mug with very hot microwaved water seemed to get rid of the smell. The first soap i have been using is the col conk sandel wood. I have been getting good lathers every time. My first 2 shaves were with a dovo shavette and I cut myself about 10 times.haha. I looked as if i went bobbing for cats. But I still liked the experience and my technique is getting better every time. My last few shaves were done with my theirs assard with stainless steel scales. Today was the only day i nicked myself. I irritated my skin quite a bit today trying to get super close. Feels like sunburn. But still, I love it. I do feel i could get better shaves with lighter scales on my straight. Maybe learning this with heavier scales will make me better faster. I don't know. Every time i have a question I look to this site for answers with great success. I thank all of the active members here for their willingness to help me and everyone else. Your replies are appreciated and dont go unnoticed. I have more to say , but I'll start another thread for that.
