I've come to regard a bowl which is wider than deep, has a rolled in top edge around the rim, has some surface texturing on the inside bottom to cause the brush to catch and trap air for incorporation, and is easy to hold comfortably in the palm of one hand with my fingers of that hand easily able to wrap up around the sides of the bowl and hold it steady to be the best of the best in all I've tried so far.
I've picked a couple of these up... one that comes to mind as a good example of concept is the Captain's Choice lathering bowl which you should be able to find reference to here. Honestly, if you could duplicate parts of the product he's made easy to just go and buy you may save yourself some coin... On the other hand, or I should say: "In my other hand" I regard it as a fine piece of work well worth your consideration.
Remember though, even if you start with the best, you'll still wonder and look at all the rest. So, relax, enjoy, welcome!
