I got my introduction into wet shaving a short time after I joined the military. I saw the future of rampant waste (disposable razor blades) and decided there had to be a better way.
My father took me to The Art of Shaving outlet store and by chance a regular client had cancelled his appointment affording me a free shave. The experience was one of a kind and I have yet to replicate such an extraordinary shave. I have come close with a razor my wife bought me some time ago but it was stolen during my time in the service.
I started with a DOVO shavette, then the razor my wife bought, then I stopped after that for a while because I hadn't the funds for another blade. I currently shave with a DOVO silver steel with black wood handles. I want to start trying different blades and am particularly interested in the shave a wedge gives. I've been wet shaving for almost eight years and have recently decided to venture into restoring a blade and making my own brush, as I have yet to master honing technique.
The blade I picked up for restoration is a simple TI Spartacus with white plastic scales and an embossed gold Spartan. May not be worth restoring by some people's standards but I have to start somewhere.
I noticed there is not much of a wet shaving presence here in Vermont and as such I would like to add to the wiki anything I can to help those of us stranded out here. Supplies are hard to come by and I am just not fond of ordering products via the Internet.
I hope to learn much from the community.
