Granted I'm a newb and haven't tried anything else, but this lather bowl is great! For starters, it's a beautiful piece. My wife got me the Cobalt and it's a nice deep blue with a glossy finish and some small variations in the color that give it added character. It fits very nicely in my hand, and has a nice knob on it from the logo that makes it easier to grasp if you need a better grip. The bowl has circular ridges in the bottom.
I'm new to DE shaving and have only had 2 full shaves. I'm using Captain's Choice Bay Rum soap right now, with a Parker Pure Badger brush. This morning I wanted to clean up my neck before heading into work, so I knew I didn't need a ton of lather. I soaked my brush in hot water and added a few drops to the top of the soap while I showered. After showering I dumped whatever water there was off the top of the soap and gave my brush one quick shake. I only worked the brush in the soap for about 10 seconds and then started to lather in the bowl. After about a minute I still had enough lather to do 3 passes on my entire face.
One thing I learned fairly quickly was not to apply too much pressure when building lather in the bowl. My first try was a big mess as I was pressing down hard to try and create the lather. I started to figure it out after that.
If anyone is looking for a good bowl, give this one a shot.
