Anybody else tried shaving soap from China

Prologue
I've been a loyal fan of this soap from China ever since I tried it, the screw-top 'boot-polish' style tin looks cool. The soap is rock hard and needs a few drops of water to soften it before using. A few swirls of the soap lathers very quickly and easily, the lather is slick, with good cushion and has a very moreish sweet, honey/butterscotch/toffee/fudge/caramel type of scent.
After shaving, cold towel, alum, another cold towel and a splash of aftershave, my face always feels very soft, supple and moisturised.
It's my favourite because it not only performs well and smells great, but mainly because I was very pleasantly surprised.
There are no ingredients listed on the advert or on the tin, quite possibly because it is a copy of a branded soap.
When there is just a thin 'halo' left in the tin, which will take a very long time, I'll definitely order more.

Main Event
I recently saw this one and decided to 'guinea pig' it

I used it this morning, the soap and the metal container are sealed separately in plastic. The container doesn't actually have any label, instead there's a clear plastic 'window', which looks quite cool. It's about the same size as a Godrej Shaving Round, and the lid fits on snugly.
It's a tight squeeze to fit the soap into the container initially, but the soap, although fairly hard, it's also quite malleable with a similar texture to Arko, it rattles a bit, but once it's in a few drops of water dripped between the soap and the inside of the container stick it firmly into place.
It has a very subtle lemony scent, almost like a diluted version of Arko or Derby, a few swirls face lather very easily, resulting in a thick, creamy, slick lather with plenty of cushion, and enough for 3 passes, buffing and probably enough surplus lather left in the brush to do a couple more passes!!
I used my frankenrazor made using the head from a €2 green plastic handled Chinese 3-piece, and the hexagonal aluminium handle from a Chinese 3-piece that I won at auction on eBay for €1, and
A new Personna blade from Supermercado Mercadona - which was the most random combo I could think of
I shaved WTG, XTG, ATG then Buffing WTG,ATG - no tugging, plenty of cushion and slickness.
After shaving, cold towel, alum block, another cold towel and a splash of Williams Expert Aqua Velva, my face feels smooth, supple and moisturized.
There are no instructions in the advert or anywhere on the packaging, quite possibly because it's a copy of a branded soap, almost like "Derby Light", if such a thing existed!!
This one's definitely a keeper, the size makes it ideal for travelling, and it performs well, but when it's gone, it's gone- when the time comes I'll probably use the container to experiment with some of the other Chinese soap pucks I've seen on eBay.
I didn't take any selfies this morning, the photo is of a test lather I mixed on my hand after the soap arrived yesterday.

Epilogue
Has anybody else tried any shaving soaps from China?
If not, from what I've seen so far, the goat milk one is well worth trying
And the other one is worth a try as a travel soap or just as a curio!!

Let's block ads! (Why?)
