Hi everyone! I am new to this who DE safety razor thing, but I love it! I have always had a problem with razor burn on my neck in order to get the kind of shave the Navy wants, but with my SR I can get a DFS with just with the grain and across the grain, so I am sold! Got myself a Merkur 34C and Parker badger brush, and it came with a green Proraso shave soap.
I had a couple of questions though! How many of you shave your hair down before a shave if it has been a few days? I recently took some time off so I let my face have a break for about 4 days, and this morning when I went to shave it took my almost 45 minutes to get all the hair gone. I felt like I was trying to have it off with safety scissors. Is that normal, or should I trim it down with clippers first? If so what trimmer or clipper do you guys use?
Secondly, I know everyone says not to use any pressure, but can anyone explain that to me cause I dont think I am getting it. I move the razor down my face and I hold the very bottom so I take alot of the work off me, but I still feel like I am adding a bit when moving down my face. Is that normal? I know when I got across the grain I find it difficult to not add some pressure because its hard to let the razor drop through the hairs when going across the face. Well thanks so much guys and I am happy to be here!
